Double-standards

In a group chat a few weeks back we discuss about people's double standards when it come to a certain series and it's fanbase.

Chris went back and watch the old Pokemon movie the one starting Mewtwo and pointed out a scene in the movie where Mewtwo blew up a laboratory he was created in and killed all the researchers too sounds familiar (Sonic Adventure 2) he also compare Shadow to Mewtwo and in someways I kinda agree since Shadow and Mewtwo pretty much had the same goal revenge and finding their place in the world. In let's keep this in mind Pokemon was marketed as a kids franchise as Somecallmejohnny puts it "Baby's first RPG" yet the Pokemon movies took the formula and turn it on it's head and were praise for it, but when Sonic the Hedgehog try to tackle these things they called Sonic "Trying to hard to be cool" "Too edgy" and as a result the games don't even try to do serious stuff every again and the last time they try was in Sonic & the black knight.

Do you see the differences here Sonic and Pokemon literately did the same trope I'll be different from each other with one being a kids franchise and another being a teen franchise (That's what the series was marketed as in the past and I'm sticking too it.) but one isn't allow to be serious (Sonic) and the other is (Pokemon).

Idk double standards I guess.
